What is a Cable Modem?
A "Cable Modem" is a device that allows high-speed
data access to the Internet over a Cable TV network. A cable
modem will typically have two connections, one to the Cable
TV line and the other to a computer (PC).
Will this work with my computer?
WestPA.net will support the following operating systems: Windows
XP or higher and MAC OS 8.1 or higher. If you are not certain
your computer has these items, please contact WestPA.net at
726-9462 (or toll free at 1-877-726-9462).
How fast is a Cable Modem?
WestPA.net's cable modem speeds are faster than DSL and Satellite
Internet connections. Packages are available for 2 Mbps, 4 Mbps,
and 6 Mbps download speeds.
How is Cable Internet different from a dial-up service??
WestPA.net's Cable Internet is 20 to 40 times faster than dialup.

What does Cable Internet cost?
WestPA.net's Residential Cable Internet service is $24.95 per
month for our 2 Mbps package, $30.95 per month for our 4 Mbps
package, and $36.95 per month for our 6 Mbps package.
What does the equipment and installation cost?
There is no installation fee. Includes the loan of a modem at
no charge!
Do I need to purchase Cable TV to get Cable Internet?
No - Cable Internet can be purchased by itself.
Is Cable Internet available in my area?
WestPA.net provides Cable Internet services to Weldbank, Tiona,
Saybrook, Sheffield, Barnes, and Ludlow areas. Cable Internet
is not available in some areas -- please call us to determine
if your address can be served.
Do I still need to have a phone line for Cable Internet
to work?
No - The Cable Internet service uses the cable TV line. A telephone
line is not required.

Can I continue to use my current e-mail address?
If you are a WestPA.net subscriber, you can continue to use
your current email address. If you are not a WestPA.net subscriber,
you will need to either select a WestPA.net email address, or
use a free email service such as Google, Yahoo, Hotmail, etc.
How is Cable Internet installed?
When you order Cable Internet service, we will schedule a visit
to your home. During the visit, a service technician from WestPA.net
will install a new cable line to your home, and inside to the
cable modem. Then, the service technician will install and test
a cable modem, and configure your computer for the Cable Internet
service.

Will I need any special software?
Yes. WestPA.net requires you to have active and updated Anti-Virus
software on any computer connected to Cable Internet service.
Firewall software is also recommended -- supported versions
of Windows have a firewall included. The WestPA.net technician
will assist you with these items at the time of installation.
Can this connection be shared with my other computer(s)?
Yes - Whether at home or a small business, you can use the system
to connect multiple computers and share the connection by installing
a "router". Contact WestPA.net to discuss your needs,
as we can provide and install a router for a reasonable fee.
Sharing of your Cable Internet service outside your home or
business is not permitted, and violates our Terms of Service.
