Windows 10 and your Broadband Internet Service:<\/strong><\/p>\n

As you know, Microsoft has released the next version of their operating system: Windows 10.\u00a0 Here are some things you need to know about it:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Sometimes, Windows 10 installation and Windows Update files are automatically shared with other users on the Internet. \u00a0\n
      \n
    1. This sharing uses your Internet connection, and can negatively impact your quality of service.<\/li>\n
    2. If you are still running Windows 8, you cannot control the sharing of Windows Update files. So, shut down your Windows 8 computers and tablets when they are not in use to prevent Windows files from sharing to others on the Internet.<\/li>\n
    3. If you are still running Windows 7, we cannot provide support because Microsoft issued an official end-of-life for this version of Windows as of January 14, 2020.<\/li>\n
    4. In Windows 10, do this to disable Windows Update from sharing Windows files with others:\n
        \n
      1. Click Start, choose the Settings Gear<\/li>\n
      2. Click \u2018Update & Security\u2019<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
          \n
        • Click \u2018Delivery Optimization\u2019<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
            \n
          1. Move the sliding button to the off position under \u2018Allow Downloads from other PCs\u2019.<\/li>\n
          2. Close the window<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
              \n
            1. Windows 10 also automatically shares information about you and the things you do when you use your computer with Microsoft. We recommend you take the time to review all the security settings under Start \u00e0 Settings\u00e0\u00a0 Click every option, and review all the information about each page, turning off options you do not want turned on.\u00a0 These are all personal preferences \u2013 there are a lot of YouTube videos on this topic which can guide you.<\/li>\n
            2. We recommend you follow up on the above settings after each Windows Update is installed on your computer, as your custom settings may be reset to factory default.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

                  6. Move the sliding button to the off position<\/li>\n \t
                  7. Close the window<\/li>\n \t
                  8. *****REMEMBER THIS***** In the future, when Windows 10 updates itself, these settings will revert back to enable sharing over the Internet.  YOU MUST CHECK THESE SETTINGS REGULARLY.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

                    1. By default, all Windows 10 computers and tablets connect to open Wi-Fi Access Points, and share your Wi-Fi information with your contacts. To prevent this (which we strongly recommend), follow these steps:\n

                      • Click Start, choose the Settings Gear<\/li>\n \t
                      • Click Networks & Internet<\/li>\n \t
                      • Make sure Wi-Fi is selected on the left<\/li>\n \t
                      • On the right, scroll down and click on the \u2018Manage Wi-Fi Settings\u2019 link<\/li>\n \t
                      • Turn all three sliders on this page off.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n \t
